Terms of Service
These terms are written to be read. They are the deal between you and Kardi, and the short version is: Kardi helps you research your own wellness, it is not your doctor, your encrypted data stays yours, and if you lose both your password and your recovery key nobody can get your data back, including us.
1. Who we are, and what these terms cover
Kardi is a personal wellness service operated from Georgia, United States ("Kardi", "we", "us"). These terms cover the website at kardi.health and the Kardi application (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. What Kardi is
Kardi lets you record genetic variants and related wellness information, organize supplement and lifestyle protocols, and ask research questions that are answered from published scientific literature with citations. When the underlying research does not support an answer, the Service is designed to say so rather than guess.
3. What Kardi is not
Kardi is a general wellness tool. It is not a medical device, and it does not provide medical advice. Nothing in the Service diagnoses, treats, cures, mitigates, or prevents any disease or condition. Information from the Service is for educational purposes, to support conversations with qualified professionals. It is not a substitute for the advice of a physician or other licensed provider, and no doctor-patient relationship is created by using it.
- Never disregard professional medical advice, or delay seeking it, because of something you read in Kardi.
- Do not start, stop, or change any medication, supplement, or treatment based on the Service without talking to your clinician.
- If you think you have a medical emergency, call your doctor or emergency services immediately.
- Research summaries can be incomplete, out of date, or wrong, even when cited. Genetic associations are probabilities, not destinies.
4. Who can use Kardi
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding contract. The Service is operated from the United States and is offered for use in the United States. You may only create profiles containing another person's information when you are their parent or legal guardian, or you have their clear permission.
5. Your account, your keys
Kardi uses end to end encryption. Your profile data is encrypted on your device with keys derived from your password, and a recovery key is shown to you once when your account is created. We store only the encrypted result and cannot read it.
This has a hard consequence. If you forget your password, your recovery key is the only way to unlock your data. If you lose both, your encrypted data is permanently unrecoverable. We cannot reset it, recover it, or hand it to anyone, because we never had the keys. Store your recovery key somewhere safe the day you get it.
You are responsible for keeping your password and recovery key confidential, and for everything that happens under your account. Tell us immediately if you believe your account has been compromised.
6. Your data stays yours
You own the information you put into Kardi. You grant us only the narrow license needed to operate the Service: to store, transmit, and process your encrypted data on your behalf. We do not sell your data, we do not share it with advertisers, insurers, employers, or data brokers, and we do not use your genetic data to train machine learning models. You can export your data from the app at any time, and you can delete your account and all stored data yourself, from inside the app, at any time.
7. Acceptable use
- Do not use the Service to harm yourself or anyone else, or to make medical decisions that belong with a clinician.
- Do not enter another person's genetic or health information without the right to do so.
- Do not probe, overload, reverse engineer, or interfere with the Service, or attempt to access another user's data.
- Do not resell or white-label the Service without our written agreement.
- Do not use automated tools to scrape the Service or to exhaust research quotas.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
8. Fees
Kardi is free during the open beta. Research questions are subject to fair-use limits, currently a monthly allowance per account. We expect to introduce paid plans in the future. If we do, we will give existing users clear notice before anything starts costing money, and continued use after that notice will be your acceptance of the new pricing. We will never quietly convert a free account into a paying one.
9. The beta, honestly
The Service is young and under active development. Features may change, break, or be removed. We work hard to keep your encrypted data safe and available, and you should still keep your own exported backups of anything you cannot afford to lose. The export button exists for exactly this reason.
10. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error free, or that research answers are complete or correct.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Kardi and its operator will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of fifty dollars or the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
12. Indemnity
If your misuse of the Service, or your violation of these terms, gets us sued, you agree to defend and indemnify us against the resulting claims, damages, and reasonable legal costs.
13. Ending things
You can stop using Kardi at any time, and you can delete your account and data from inside the app. We may suspend or terminate the Service, or your access to it, for violations of these terms or if we discontinue the Service, in which case we will make reasonable efforts to give notice so you can export your data first.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the Service grows. For meaningful changes we will post the new terms here with a new effective date and, for material changes, notify you by email or in the app before they take effect. Using the Service after the effective date means you accept the updated terms.
15. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, United States, without regard to conflict of law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Georgia, and both sides consent to their jurisdiction. Before filing anything, email us. Most problems are fixable by two people acting in good faith.
